Exotic locations, beautiful costumes, dance & drama define Bollywood love stories. There were numerous times we went ‘awwww’ and ‘ohhhh’ and occasionally let out some hopeful sighs. Not just that, but these Bollywood love stories have created some iconic couples over the past decades. Some people call these movies ‘cheesy’ but hey, everyone loves cheese!!

1. Ranbir – Vidya in Shree 420
‘Pyaar hua, Ikraar hua hai, pyaar se phir kyun darta hai dil?’, decades after this movie, most of us can still hum along to this song. Raj Kapoor and Nargis starred in this timeless classic. 2. Prem – Nisha in Hum Aapke Hai Kaun
*Cough Cough* Admit it, this beautiful love story between charming Prem and excruciatingly beautiful Nisha made you turn on your binoculars every time you went to someone’s wedding! Also, the ‘Joote do,paise lo’ tradition became quite a fad after this movie.
3. Raj – Simran in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge
How can this couple not be on any list that is even remotely related to romance, right? I guess they coined the phrase ‘opposites attract’ after this movie. The padhaku, serious Simran falls in love with the good for nothing Raj only to create a classic love story. This love story taught us that we can find love in the most unexpected places and with the most unexpected people. Keep your eyes and ears and ahem minds open!
4. Aditya – Geet in Jab We Met
It’s difficult not to fall in love with a chirpy, bubbly, ‘khudki favorite’ Geet. The selfless love of Aditya, who was trying to patch things up between Geet and Anshuman, showed us that when you are in true love it is only the happiness of the person you love that matters. Reminds me of the dialogue ‘Ishq di mere mitra pechan ki, mit jaye jado zid apnaan di’ from Namaste London. Lesson learnt – Ultimately, true love triumphs!
5. Humpty – Kavya of Humpty Sharma ki Dulhaniya
Feisty Kavya and emotional Humpty make an adorable pair, don’t they? They make up for each others drawbacks and enhance each other’s strengths. Kavya loves Humpty inspite of him not being as educated, as great a cook or a body builder as Angad. Humpty buys Kavya her super mehenga lehenga from the money that was saved to buy a new car. This unconditional love for each other makes Kavya & Humpty one of the cutest pairs ever!
6. Ram – Leela of Goliyon ki Ras Leela Ram-Leela
Phew! Sizzling is the only word that describes Ram & Leela’s chemistry. This love at first sight leads to a lot of bloodshed and causes havoc in the whole of Ranjaar but remains as strong as ever. This intense love between Ram & Leela, their dedication to each other is incomparable.
7. Bunny – Naina from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Strangers to Friends to Best Friends to Lovers. This love story between mature and ever so understanding Naina and the free bird Kabir aka Bunny is so close to what happens in real life that we almost imagine ourselves in their shoes. Naina ultimately makes Kabir realize that love is an integral part of being alive.

‘Pyaar dosti hai’, so true isn’t it? Rahul and Anjali prove to us that at the end of it all, love is friendship.
