Bharatpur: Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan

Bharatpur is a beautiful city known for its rich heritage. It lies in the Indian state of Rajasthan and is considered to be a great city of immense historical and archaeological importance. It is located in the Braj region and it has served as the main capital city of the mighty Jat kingdom. It lies just 50 km away from Agra city, the city of Taj Mahal, and thus if you are visiting here, it might be a great thing to take some time out for a detour to visit the beautiful Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal has been long known as a symbol of love and attracts a large number of visitors as well.

If you in Bharatpur, the first place you should definitely head to without any doubt is the Royal House of Bharatpur. This Royal house traces its history back till the eleventh century itself and is a great place to visit for history lovers. Bharatpur has a quite impressive history and it has served as a princely state for quite a lot of time. Bharatpur lies in the National Capital Region and is thus a great weekend getaway for the residents of Delhi. Bharatpur lies 180 km above sea level and it is also famous by several other names such as “Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan” as well as Lohagarh. The most primary attraction of Bharatpur is Keoladeo National Park which is a beautiful park that is home to several rare species of flora and fauna. It is one of the top places to visit in Bharatpur and definitely deserves a visit.
You should visit the Keoladeo National Park which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This park has served as the reserve for duck hunting for the maharajas during the ancient times.However recently, the park has started serving as the major winter areas for hibernation for a large number of aquatic birds. These birds include the Siberian Crane as well as over 350 other species of birds. The name of the park, i.e. Keoladeo National Park, has been derived from the name of an ancient Hindu temple by the name Keoladeo dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple lies in the sanctuary’s central zone. The park is specially famous for being home to so many species of birds.
Bharatpur has been under the rule of the Sinsinwar clan of Jats for a long time. Apart from this, the city has remnants of the colonial rule that will give you a glimpse into the times of british rule. The main languages spoken in Bharatpur include Hindi, English and Braj bhasha. It has a large number of educational institutions as well, ranging from government funded to privately owned. The main economy of Bharatpur rests on the shoulders of agriculture and agro-based products. The main crops grown in Bharatpur include mustard, potatoes, chillies, wheat and cotton. Mustard specially is a very primarily produced item here and you can see the extent of this statements by the fact that there are over 50 oil mills  here.
